Rules [v3.2]
1. Overview
This application is optimized for computer and tablet usage. If there is interest, we will be sure to optimize it for mobile. Thank you.
This unofficial Fan Made single player mode is directly derived from the official Dice Throne Adventures (DTA) single player mode. It allows you to defeat the different characters of Dice Throne Season 1 and 2 (available in different updates), as if you were facing one of the four BOSS of DTA. In this rule we will call the character you are playing against as "The Boss".
No matter which Boss you choose, only its Upgrade cards will be used in this single player mode. The rest of his cards will be removed from the game and replaced by the Boss AI card decks and Action card decks from the single player mode of the chosen Boss. We'll see the cards that make up these two decks later.
For the rules, we will take the Barbarian to illustrate the Boss and the Moon Elf to illustrate the Active Player (you).
Bonus tokens
This single player mode uses some tokens inherited from DTA:

King's hand

Salve

Bonus damage

Back Strike
Don't have these tokens? Don't panic, a specific rule has been set up for Back Strike and you can use dice for the others (see "2. Setup" in the "Active Player" section and the "Boss" section)
2. Setup
2.1. Active Player (you)

Choose a character and set up his equipment as for a two-player game.
Set your starting Health to 50.
Set your starting CP to 2 and draw the top 4 cards from your deck. This is your starting hand.
For more details, see pages 2 and 3 of the official Dice Throne rulebook.
Take Salve tokens and Bonus Damage tokens and place them near your hero board.
WARNING: You start with NO bonus tokens.
If you don't have these tokens from DTA, get two dice, preferably of a different color, to recognize them (dice from other characters for example):Place them near your hero board.
- 1 to count your Salve
- 1 to count your Bonus Damage
2.2. The boss
2.2.1. Boss Battle setup

Choose a Boss and follow the instructions below to set it up:
Set the boss starting Health to 80.
Take all the Boss Upgrade cards, shuffle them and form a deck.
Take all the other cards from the boss deck and put them back in the box. They will not be used for this game mode.
The Boss starts with 2 King's Hand tokens . (See "6. Bonus tokens effect" for more details on the effect of the King's Hand token )
If you don't have these tokens from DTA, get a dice (from another character for example) and place it on the Boss board with the value 2.
The Boss must first place his upgrade cards on his board according to his difficulty (See next step "2.2.2. Choosing the difficulty of the Boss").
2.2.2. Choosing the difficulty of the Boss
You will choose a difficulty level for the Boss. This difficulty will determine:
There are 3 levels of difficulty:
Starting of the Boss to pay his upgrade cards | "D" value on AI Boss cards and Action cards in the app | |
Easy | 10 | 0 |
Normal | 12 | 1 |
Hard | 15 | 2 |
Example of choosing the level of difficulty:

Don't understand the Boss AI card? Don't worry, we'll explain it all in the section "4. Boss's Game Turn".
2.2.3. Setting up the Boss board upgrade cards
After setting the Boss's difficulty in the previous step, you will now place the Boss's Upgrade cards on his board. To do this:
-
Draw the first Upgrade card from the Upgrade deck (see (2) of Setting Up the Board and Boss Cards):
If the Boss has enough to pay for the card drawn, he spends it and places the upgrade on the corresponding slot.If the Boss draws a level 2 or 3 upgrade when he already has the level 1 upgrade, the Boss pays only the difference between the drawn card and the upgrade he already has.If a level 2 upgrade is revealed when a level 3 upgrade is already placed on the Boss's board, the Boss discards the drawn card without gaining an extra .
- Repeat this process until the Boss's no longer pays for the card drawn. When this is the case, you discard the drawn card.
The setup of the Boss upgrade cards is complete.
![]()
One last thing and it's done for the Boss!!
Whatever the number of available at the end of the set up of his board upgrade cards, the Boss starts the game with 2.
The Boss is now ready for the fight.
3. Application setup

This is the last step before you can (finally...) play this single player mode. You will select the Boss you want to fight.
The available Bosses are the first buttons in the list. All the Bosses listed after "Coming soon..." are in development. But we are working on them to bring them to you as soon as possible.
Click on the button of the Boss you want to fight. 2 decks are automatically generated:
We will not dwell on the content of the cards here. We will explain them in the explanation of a Boss game turn.

The Boss AI deck will give the Boss casting objectives for his turn. Some cards will also give the Boss a reinforcement.

The Action deck will give the Boss action for his turn. The action will be played either during the main phase (blue card) or during the casting phase (orange card).
The application is now ready for the fight.
4. Game turn
The Active player will always be the first player and will always benefit from his income phase on his first turn. That is, on your first turn, you gain 1 and draw a card.
Each round has 3 steps:
1
Spend salves2
Active Player turn3
Boss turnStep 1 : spend salves

- You can choose to spend all or part of your available Salves.
- For each Salve spent, you gain 6 Life Points.
At the beginning of the game, you have NO Salve. But you can gain some later on, mainly through the bonus effect of the Action cards.
Step 2 : Active player turn
Active Player Phase
Play a classic Dice Throne turn.
Exception: If you succeed in a ULTIMATE, the Boss may, if he has any, use a King's Hand token to counter it (see «5. Details of Additional Effects»).
Boss defense phase
For any Defensible attack you inflict on the Boss following an Offensive Roll Phase, he will use his defensive ability.
Step 3 : BOSS Turn
Maintenance Phase
Resolve any maintenance inherent in the Maintenance Phase. (usually specified by State Alterations or Passive Capabilities).
Income phase

- The Boss gains 1.
- Click on a card from one of the decks in the app. 1 AI Boss card and 1 Action card are automatically drawn.
-
Immediately, the Boss gains (if there is one) the reinforcement effect of the Boss AI card A. If this reinforcement is a negative status alteration token, the Boss inflicts it on the Active Player (you).
The example shows that the Barbarian Boss wins D Hand of the King, D being the difficulty level chosen in 2.2.2.
-
Immediately, the Active Player (you) gains the bonus shown in the upper right corner of the Action card drawnB.
The example shows that the bonus allows the Active Player (you) to draw 2 cards.
So you have drawn a Boss AI card and an Action card for the Boss's turn. We will see in the following phases how to use them.
Main phase

-
The Action card drawn is a Blue card
If the Boss can pay her and if he can apply his effect, he immediately consumes his and then resolves his effect. If the Boss cannot pay it, or if he cannot resolve his effect, he discards it immediately and gains 1 extra point .
-
The Action card drawn is an Orange card
Wait until the end of the Offensive Roll phase to resolve (or not) its effect. See the section «Using an Orange Card (Attack Modifier)» for more details.
Offensive Rolling Phase

If the roll objective is a Suite, follow this rule carefully:
- Keep only 1 die of each for 2, 3, 4 and 5
- Only keep one of each die for 1 or 6 if they are part of a small suite or large suite, otherwise re-roll them.
- Roll the 5 Boss dice in an attempt to reach the Rolling Objective shown on the Boss AI card, in the box corresponding to the chosen Boss.
- If no negative effects prevent you from doing so, roll only the dice that do not match the Rolling Objective.
- If no negative effects prevent you from doing so, roll one more time in the same manner if the Rolling Goal is not reached.
The Offensive Rolling phase is over. Now we have to solve the result.
- If only one Offensive Ability is filled by his roll result, he activates it
- If 2 or more Offensive Abilities are filled by his roll result, he activates the strongest Offensive Ability. That is, first the ability furthest to the right of his board, and then the one furthest down.
Using an Orange card (attack modifier)

If the Action card drawn at the beginning of the turn is Orange :
Note that this card can still be used if a King's Hand is used for a new Offensive Roll phase.
Special situations
- If the Boss has a negative Concussion Alteration token on him (causing him to skip his Income Phase), he will still draw the Action and Boss AI cards ONLY to have a Throw Objective. You will get the bonus from the Action card (top right) but the Boss will NOT gain the reinforcement effect from the Boss AI card.
- If the Boss has a negative Alteration Token On Land and does not have the necessary funds to spend to discard that Token, he draws a new card and immediately discards it to gain 1 and immediately uses it to remove the Token. You do NOT get the bonus from the Action card (top right).
5. Endgame
The game ends if:
6. Effects of the bonus tokens
King’s Hand

This is the only status inherited from the Boss of Dice Throne Adventure. This ability cannot be Removed or Transferred by card effects. This ability is used by the Boss if:
- None of his Offensive Abilities can be activated after his 3 Offensive Rolls. In this case, he consumes that ability to attempt a new Offensive Roll phase and retry the same Roll Objective.
- You inflict a ULTIMATE on him. He consumes as much of the king's hand as he has left to roll 1 dice. If the result is between 4 and 6, he forces you to re-roll 1 dice.
His dice result can be countered by one of your cards or tokens.
Salve

Consume during the first step of your turn, before your Maintenance Phase. Salves cannot be transferred by card effects, but can be removed. You may choose to spend all or part of your available Salves. For each Salve spent you gain 6 Life Points.
Bonus Damage

Bonus To be used as an attack modifier at the end of the Offensive Roll phase.
Reminder: any additional damage done by tokens, cards etc... takes the nature of the type of damage inflicted by the ability on your board.
Back-Strike

When you reveal a card with this bonus, draw the first card from your deck and place it face down on your board. Whenever you receive damage from an Offensive Roll phase, you may use BackStrike to retaliate as follows:
- Reveal the previously drawn face-down card.
- Either you inflict as much damage as its value in
- Either you refuse this value and roll 1 die (you are obliged to accept the result of the die!) to inflict ½ of its value (rounded up) in standard damage
- Put the card back into your deck and shuffle it.
+1 Positive Token

You gain a Positive Alteration token of your choice from your character or your opponent (within the limit of its Stack and availability in the inventory) and place it on your board. This effect is only applicable to Positive Alteration tokens (not valid for a Familiar for example)
7. Adjustment of some state alterations
Concussion

A Boss affected by Concussion doesn't do his maintenance phase. He does not gain 1 PC. However, he does draw a Boss AI card and an Action card. The Boss AI card will give him his Lancer objective for the turn, but he will not apply the Reinforcement if there is one. He will also not be able to use the Action card and will not be able to gain 1 in return. The Active Player (you), on the other hand, gains the Action card bonus.
Evasive

This positive State Alteration token is used by the Boss for any Avoidable damage (refer to the official rule for this State Alteration) greater than 8 damage after his defense roll or if the damage results in game over. He will use his tokens until one of them prevents the damage.
